Sapphire 7950 For Mac

I recently picked up a Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 (I think it’s the ’Boost’ edition) that I’d like to flash to the ’Mac Edition’ of the card. There are at least a couple of ROMs in the TechPowerUp database that claim to be Mac versions, but none of them are verified. Is there any way I can verify. I have a 2008 Mac Pro, single Quad Core-not state of the art at all. I bought my sapphire radeon HD 7950 to replace an nVidia 8800, so that I could play Bio shock infinite on Steam. Yes, I installed it myself, it’s a piece of cake. I had no issues after installing.
Hi Paul,
1. Yes, no problem, only fits on the one slot closet to the bottom.
2. No really, in fact it works with 10.6.8, where they say 10.7/10.8/10.9, 10.10 only, but does not display booting from the 10.6.3 Install Disc that doesn’t have drivers for it.
3. I haven’t really taxed it, but in playing huge Civ IV/Warlords games it’s almost instant.

I thought this switch only had two choices 1 or 2 and no middle. Ace stream media for mac. Is the plastic cover of this video card white or red in colour?
If it is white it is a genuine Mac edition card, if it is red it was at least originally a PC edition. A PC edition card can be converted to have Mac firmware installed - like the white Mac edition card. Typically position 1 would contain one copy of firmware and position 2 a different copy. People upgrading it to have Mac firmware would do one copy and this then means the switch can be used to switch between the Mac and PC firmware.

I would try position 1 first and if the Apple logo shows during boot-up it is using Mac firmware, if it stays black until the login screen appears then that position at least has no Mac firmware. Then try the other position if necessary. It is not compulsory to install Mac firmware on this card as I mentioned without Mac firmware if you wait till the login screen it will work, it is merely that without Mac firmware you cannot see anything until the Mac has finished booting and therefore cannot access the Recovery HD partition or use FileVault or use the Option Key to select an alternate boot drive.
